When you first open an application such as MacWrite™, the program conveniently provides you with an blank “Untitled” document so that you may begin typing immediatlely without having to fiddle with the mouse. This is very convenient except for one thing: the font you begin typing with is chosen for you: Geneva. If your favorite font is different than Geneva or if you use a LaserWriter™ printer, you will find yourself fiddling with the mouse to change fonts anyway. Inconvenient. There must be an easier way!
About Scribe

There is an easier way. Using Scribe™, you simply choose the font you would like your applications to use when they are first opened, and Scribe will take care of the rest. The font you choose will be the font your all applications first use, no matter which disk you start–up with! And if you ever wish to, you can always use Scribe again to change the default font, as it is called, back to Geneva.
Using Scribe
------------
When you open Scribe, you are presented with a window entitled “Sample” which shows some sample text in the current default font (with the default font’s name above it). If you wish to change your current default font to a different one, simply choose the font you would like to change it to from the list of fonts provided in the Font menu. The font you choose will automatically be made the default font, and Sample window will display a sample of the new font. If you like the looks of the new font, then that’s all there is to it; otherwise, simply choose other fonts until you find one you like. The fonts that are listed in the Font menu are all the fonts you have installed on your Start–Up Disk.
CAUTION: If the font you choose as your default font is not installed on a disk you start–up with, Chicago will be used as a substitute.
Miscellaneous

Scribe changes a setting which is maintained by the same battery as your Macintosh’s clock. If you replace your battery, or if you find your Alarm Clock displays the wrong date or time, you may have to run Scribe again to reset your default font the way you like it (if you are lucky enough to have a Mac SE or Mac ][ need not worry about this).
Included in Scribe’s File menu is the command “Transfer”. This menu choice allows you to run another program immediately, rather than quitting to the Finder. After you choose this command, a dialog box will appear listing the applications on your disks. Simply click on an application’s name and then click on the Transfer button and you will be transfered to that application.
Registration
------------
Scribe is being distributed on the ShareWare system. This entitles you to review Scribe before paying for it; try it out and see if you feel it is a worthy addition to your software library. If you choose to keep Scribe, you are on your honor to send in the $8 registration fee and become a registered user. Otherwise you must destroy all of your copies of Scribe (or better yet, give them to your friends). You are at a real advantage in that you can use Scribe before you decide if you want to purchase it—please don’t take advantage of that privilege. Considerable time was spent developing and perfecting Scribe and sending in your registration fee will insure the development of many more high–quality, inexpensive programs.
To make registration easy for you, we have prepared a ready–made registration form which you may print out and send in along with the registration fee. Simply choose Print Registration Form… from the FILE menu (you may wish to choose Page Setup… beforehand to set your paper size) and the form will be printed out for you. Please feel free to include any comments you have about Scribe in the space provided, we need you to help make Scribe the best it can be!
